DCR: a prime location for artists and other creatives, right in the middle of the thriving Energy district, a hub for art and design in The Hague.

The DCR used to serve as the office building for the energy plant next door, and is situated right in the middle of the 'Energiekwartier' (‘Energy district'), a neighbourhood currently undergoing a renaissance of sorts as its being reinvisioned as The Hague’s main hub for art and design

The DCR used to serve as the office building for the energy plant next door, and is situated right in the middle of the ‘Energiekwartier’ (‘Energy district’), a neighbourhood currently undergoing a renaissance of sorts as its being reinvisioned as The Hague’s main hub for art and design. DCR’s location at the Constant de Rebequeplein puts it right in the middle of this hub and right next to a few other cultural mainstays of the The Hague artistic scene, such as Zaal 3 (a dependence of the Spui theatre) and Nest, a well-known art gallery.

DCR present themselves as a place for the creative industry to settle and prosper. ‘Creative industry’ in their view emcompasses the arts, applied arts, dance, music and design. With around forty studios, DCR is one of the bigger artist-run studio spaces in The Hague, and its interior reflects their creative roots and aim: it truly feels like a place by and for creative makers. This is also felt in the presence of a common workshop and what they refer to as a ‘dirty space’, for those working on a larger project.

There’s also a lot of crossover between the tenants and the organisation, and amongst the tenants themselves. The relationship between DCR, Nest, Zaal 3 and Cloud/t (?) is described as ‘mutually beneficial’, where they aim to make use of the talent that is on offer in and around DCR. This is promoted with events like barbecues, drinks and parties, though it’s stressed that plenty of tenants also tend to work in peace and quiet.

Also on offer are temporary studios, the DCR guest studios, where traveling artists can stay and work for shorter periods. Artists that have a residency in the city, for example, or dancers who are in town for a performance, are welcome here.

From €64,50 – €110,- per Month. Potential tenants have to be registered with Stroom.

It's possible to change the interior, in deliberation with the owner. Office spaces have to be returned to their original state when vacating, unless otherwise decided.
