Diemensie: an old school building turned modest business center, with a quiet atmosphere and a surprising amount of space.
Diemensie is a collective property offering both flexible working spaces and office units for rent. The building they call home was built way back in 1889 by a then-famous architect by the name of Van Nieuwkerk, and served as an all-girl school for many years. The building still features many original architectural details, and while the old headmaster’s office now serves as a physicians’ workspace, it’s still recognisable for what it originally was.
The office units for rent at Diemensie range is size from small (6m2) to an average of 20m2, most of which are in the old classrooms of the school. Tenants range from general practitioners, a cyber security company and even a jeweller. There’s a quiet atmosphere that permeates the building, from its marble floors to the large, hundred-year-old horse chestnut tree that still stands tall in the old schoolyard.
Most tenants are local, working at Diemensie because it offers them a comfortable place to work away from home. The surrounding neighbourhood, known as the Zeeheldenkwartier (‘quarter of nautical heroes’) is a popular one, with its many coffee places and shops.
