Keu’s Genoeg: A socially engaged business center with an interesting history as a pool- and billiards hall.
Keu’s Genoeg – the name itself a billiards-based pun that’s hard to do justice when translated – is somewhat of an anomaly in The Hague. Set-up as part of the same initiative as Hart van Moerwijk (link), Keu’s Genoeg fulfills a similar if not exactly the same role, namely that of social heart for the neighborhood.
Originally the building was a collected billiards- and pool-hall, and while it now serves a myriad purposes, a large part of the building is still dedicated to billiards. An entire wing is filled to the brim with pool tables, and there are often events and championships on-site. There are even billiards lessons offered here.
Apart from that, though, there are also nine office units, a roomfull of flexible working spaces and conference halls for rent at Keu’s Genoeg. Befitting the status of Keu’s Genoeg as a socially engaged environment, tenants include an integration course provider, educationalists and a foundation that helps mentally handicapped people find housing. Potential tenants go through a selection process to see if they fit the environment that Keu’s Genoeg offers.
The ambition for Keu’s Genoeg is to distinguish themselves by being adaptable, becoming and relatively affordable. Uniquely, they employ a lot of volunteers, a factor in their ability to keep costs low.
